For prizes of more than $600, 5% is withheld and sent to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. For prizes $5,000 and greater, 24% of the prize is withheld and sent to the Internal Revenue Service and 5% is withheld and sent to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
